Guardian of Air

Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday, is the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is celebrated around the world, but to many in the States, New Orleans, Louisiana is perhaps one of the most famous Carnival celebrations. The season of parades, (masquerade) balls, and king cake parties begin on Twelfth Night. To New Orleanians, "Mardi Gras" refers only to the final and most elaborate day of the Carnival Season; visitors tend to refer to the entire Carnival as "Mardi Gras." Some locals have thus started to refer to the final day of Carnival as "Mardi Gras Day" to avoid confusion. Confused? You can find out more about Mardi Gras in New Orleans, here!

"Somewhere, someone is doing a doctoral thesis on why people go crazy at the sight of a string of beads." While that statement is funny, it's also true. People will do just about anything to get their hands on beads. Usually yelling "Throw me something Mister!" or"Throw me something Lady!" to the krewe is the way to go. I think that's what this person is, either a krewe member (even though her costume isn't very elaborate) or a spectator. I don't know if you can see it, but look in her jeans pocket. Yup, that's a little masquerading voodoo doll. I also added little designs on the coins to make them unique.
